Stars Descend — Kara Jaynes // Blog Tour & Guest Post

Good morning, Spirits! Today, I'm delighted to share about Kara Jaynes's latest novel, Stars Descend!

About the Book

The elves have come down from the sky in their ships, their countenances full of light and their bodies, power. But they rule over us humans with iron fists, and without mercy.

Vampires stalk the streets, lurking in shadows and the cover of darkness. Their lust for blood is never sated, and the nights are filled with the screams of their victims.

I'm just a street rat, a trash picker. I didn't expect him to choose me. The Prince of Elves could have anyone, so why me?

Even as my heart sings at the elf's close proximity, I still love the boy who left me, disappearing into the city's corrupt underworld. I don’t even know if he's still alive.

Stars reign. Rebellion brews. And with my already uncertain future disintegrating into chaos, I don't know who to turn to, or who to trust.

Kara Jaynes, on Overcoming Prejudice

In Stars Descend, the protagonist is a young woman trying to make a living off the refuse of the crumbling dystopian city of Liberty. Times are hard, and she does what she must to get the money she needs to take care of her brother, Quinn.

Five years before this story begins, elves from space descend to Earth to save the people and what's left of the planet. Despite this, the humans don't trust the elves and see them as invaders.

What Stella has heard about the elves is that they are cold, ruthless, and care nothing for humans. She's scared of them, and when she finally meets the elves, initially thinks the worst, based on what she thought she knew about them.

It's not until she spends more time with them that Stella begins to realize that the elves are not cruel and cold-hearted and that her previous assumptions were wrong.

Stella and the elven prince come from entirely different backgrounds and cultures, and yet are able to change their preconceived notions of each other.

When I wrote this story, I wanted to show that two people with different opinions and lifestyles can still be kind and respectful to each other, and hopefully extend kindness and compassion to others. I hope that message gets across to readers.
