{Blog Tour, Book Review, & Giveaway} When Beauty Blooms by Victoria Lynn // a Sweet Little Tale of Overcoming Anxiety

Hello, Spirits! Today, I'm happy to be a part (and share my review!) of Victoria Lynn's latest release, When Beauty Blooms.

Book Review

★★★★☆

"Beauty blooms when you are true to who God created you to be."

When I learned that Victoria Lynn's next release would be about a young woman in Enlightenment England who struggles with social anxiety, I knew it was something I'd want to read. As someone who battles hints of anxiety herself, Victoria's new story was I tale I just had to explore! And I was not in the least disappointed.

Marjorie Kirk feels hopeless. Neglected by her family and possessing little in the way of looks, she struggles to find her place in society. She's an outcast, and the world has little to offer... until she meets the young local minister, and embarks on a journey of friendship, self-discovery... and even a touch of romance.

Y'all, this was sweet! Marjorie's kindness and societal exploration and Miss Claire's encouragement were endearing. And the minister! *smiles* His budding relationship with Marjorie was charming.

When Beauty Blooms makes for a sweet, short little tale of overcoming anxiety, finding your place in the world, and accepting God's chosen path for you. To anyone who's ever felt unnoticed or unimportant, this is a story I recommend!

NOTE: I received a free ebook copy of When Beauty Blooms from the publisher, in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

About the Book

Revolutionary-War-Era England

Marjorie Kirk is a woman with no fortune, no prospects, no family, and no skills. Or so she thinks. She is awkward, shy, and the farthest thing from any semblance of a society lady.

The new minister keeps turning up in the most awkward of places and she can't help but feel that her life is doomed to one of embarrassment. But will her flaws actually be the thing that others find the most attractive?

A story of a young woman with social anxiety and how she learns to bloom.

{Blog Tour, Book Trailer, & Interview} Fairest Son by H.S.J. Williams

Happy Tuesday, Spirits! Today, I'm absolutely ecstatic to be a part of the launch tour for H.S.J. Williams's first release, Fairest Son!

About the Book

A Snow White Retelling

The Fair and Foul courts of the fey folk have long yearned for one to bring them together in peace, but hopes are dashed when the fairest prince and the prophecy concerning him are laid to ruin. Burdened with shame and sorrow, the prince flees to the cold mountains far above the forests and lochs with nothing but animals and goblins for company.

When a human huntress stumbles upon him in her search for a legendary predator, their fates are intertwined. But she hides deadly secrets, and if he dares to trust her, he may risk the doom of both courts to an ancient evil...

Book Trailer

Interview

Welcome to The Book Sprite, Hannah! I’m so thrilled to have you here -- and for Fairest Son to release!! *squeals* First off, would you mind introducing yourself and your story?

Thank you for having me, Serethiel! I am quite thrilled as well! Well, my author name is H.S.J. Williams and I have recently released my first novella, Fairest Son. It is a gender-swap retelling of Snow White set in Celtic faerie courts and featuring a maimed prince, a secretive huntress, and several grouchy goblins.

If you could meet any author (no matter their time period) to chat over tea, who would it be and why?

Just ONE? That's hardly fair. I would like a whole assortment, if you please. But if I must choose, it would be Anne Elisabeth Stengl because she is the author I have the closest relationship with, she writes my very favorite books, and she is in many ways the one who inspired Fairest Son's conception. We would have a lovely time chatting about books, kitties, and art.

What message do you want readers to take away from Fairest Son?

The tale of Fairest Son is about beauty, true beauty. In a world of faeries where appearances are taken so highly, it is important to remember that the most beautiful people are those with the kindest and most giving hearts. Knowing people for who they are, not what they look like.

Once readers have read (and adored!) Fairest Son, what books would you recommend they start, next?

Of course! If you enjoy darker faerie worlds with deep messages, I recommend Tales of Goldstone Wood. I would also recommend An Enchantment of Ravens, but only to older readers who are aware it contains some language and one descriptive kissing scene. For those just want more fairytale retellings, I highly suggest the books by Melanie Cellier!

Thank you so much for your time, Hannah! It's been a pleasure chatting with you! 😊 Before you go, is there anything you can share with us about your next release?

Of course! While Fairest Son is a standalone short story, I have been working for years on a much larger series set in world of reclusive elves, aspiring humans, and dangerous folk of all kinds. It is a vast story of redemption, and it will begin with Moonscript. I do not have a release estimate yet, but it draws ever closer with each day. πŸ˜‰

About the Author

From the beginning, H.S.J. Williams has loved stories and all the forms they take. Whether with word, art, or costume, she has always been fascinated with the magic of imagination. She lives in a real fantastical kingdom, the beautiful Pacific Northwest, with her very own array of animal friends and royally loving family. Williams taught Fantasy Illustration at MSOA. She may also be a part-time elf.

Love Needs No Words by Faith L. Potts // A Sweet Exploration of the Value of Love

★★★★☆

Fourteen years ago, Shay Williams fell for a guy. Now, he's back in her life -- and with a shocking revelation.

Last October, I had the pleasure of reading/reviewing Faith L. Potts's debut novella, Dandelion Dust. Clean, sweet, and wholesome -- with a clear message on top -- it made for a heartwrenching (but AMAZING πŸ˜) read. So when January rolled around and Faith announced Love Needs No Words as her second release, I knew I had to read it.

Shay Williams's life is simple. Home for the summer, she spends her days working the cash register at a local diner -- and it's there she is reunited with her childhood crush: Daniel Rogers, now left mute by a tragic accident.

This story... *happy-sighs* It was so sweet. 😊 Shay was so honest and considerate, and Daniel was so kind and SUCH A PRECIOUS CINNAMON ROLL YOU GUYSSS (but, I would like to second Ivie @ Ivie Writes and note that, though a cinnamon roll he may be, a determined and accomplished one he is! πŸ˜‰). Plus, the theme of acceptance and the portrayal of disabilities... YES. I approve. πŸ’ž

Though I didn't enjoy this book quite as much as Dandelion Dust, it still made for a lovely, satisfying read. I can't wait to dive into (and learn more about!) Faith's next release! πŸ’—

You may want to know: I misplaced my notes on this one. *hides* πŸ™ˆ But, I do recall some bullying and, of course, a light romance. This was a very clean read, and one I'd most likely recommend to almost any age group!

NOTE: I received a free ebook copy of Love Needs No Words from the author, in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

{Relaunch Tour} The Reluctant Godfather by Allison Tebo

Good morning, Spirits! Today, I'm thrilled to take part in the relaunch tour for Allison Tebo's debut release, The Reluctant Godfather!

About the Book

Book One of the Tales of Ambia

A humorous and magical re-telling of Cinderella from a unique perspective.

Burndee is a young and cantankerous fairy godfather who would rather bake cakes than help humans. A disgrace to the fairy order, Burndee has only two wards entrusted to his care... a cinder girl and a charming prince.

A royal ball presents Burndee with the brilliant solution of how to make his wards happy with the least amount of effort. He’ll arrange a meeting and hope the two fall in love.

The debut novella from Allison Tebo, The Reluctant Godfather is a new addition to the charming fairy tale tradition of Cameron Dokey and K.M. Shea.

{Blog Tour, Guest Post, & Giveaway} Worlds Beneath by K.A. Emmons

Happy Saturday, Spirits! Today, I'm delighted to share Worlds Beneath -- a new book from indie author K.A. Emmons!

About the Book

Book Two of The Blood Race Series

I used to think that seeing was believing, but now, as I struggle to stay alive below the ravine, I begin to realize that -- good or bad -- I will see whatever I believe.

"Who are you, Icarus, that the earth opens its mouth to receive your blood?" Sensei's words were my last thoughts before I fell into the bottomless ravine, plunging toward my own death, and bringing about Hawk's at the same time. Or so I thought.

I woke up underwater. I awoke in a strange and unfamiliar world, filled with maze-like forest, shadows, and nightmares seemingly as vivid and dangerous as reality. I had no idea who I was, or how I got there -- I couldn't remember anything, until I remembered her: Hawk. The other half of my soul.

I knew that in order for her to stay alive, I had to survive and find a way out. But that's easier said than done when you're trapped in a realm as deadly as your every thought -- and dominated by a hierarchy of ravenous wolf packs.

Alerted by a dream, I realize that Hawk has left the Dimension to come find me. For an instant, I rediscover hope. But that hope quickly burns to ash when I realize that we may not be the only ones down here. Someone else with a thirst for her blood may have survived the fall too. And I may have just lured her right into the jaws of a predator even fiercer than the wolves.

Guest Post: K.A. Emmons on Writing

I have always said that books are like children; each is different, and each has its own personality. The writing process for me, is a different journey each time and with each new book. Each time I sit down at the desk in the morning with my cup of coffee, I don't have a map or a plan, or a binder full of notes (though there is nothing wrong with that).

I ask to be shown; I ask to be moved and overwhelmed by a story that will change me for the better and make my heart like the moon -- full of craters from meteors, except each meteor is a story.

My sister calls me a pantser. I don't plan much of anything -- in writing or life. I ask to be led. I ask to be guided, and then I wait and see what happens. Because life is exciting, is it not?! Like a good story, it's full of purpose and meaning and twists and turns. It requires that we slow down and savor in order to truly enjoy the journey. And honestly, that's the best word I can think of that embodies the writing process for me:
Journey.
And there is no destination other than truth. And truth is an everyday discovery.

So whether you're a plotter or a pantser, leave room for that discovery. Give yourself permission to loosen your grip. Relax... this is the best part of writing a book -- the journey of actually writing it! Discovering the meaning behind each word, scene, and character. And through this discovery, may you find a beautiful arc that bends towards the truth.

Don't feel the need to take every single piece of advice you receive or have your entire story figured out before you even begin... leave room for adventure, for wonder, and for exploration. Leave room for the truth to be revealed and discovered.

There is no right or wrong to writing: write what's in your heart. Write what you're passionate about. There's a beautiful phrase: raison d'Γͺtre -- and it means "the most important reason or purpose for someone or something's existence."

I'm a firm believer that each and every one of us have a raison d'Γͺtre -- we all have a big, beautiful purpose -- a reason we exist. And as creators, everything we create should have a purpose -- a REASON, too. So listen to your heart, listen to that still small voice of truth, and follow it through your story. Let it weave into your prose, and let it infect your characters.

So next time you sit down to write and work through your own process, I hope you find meaning and truth, and purpose and life. And when your readers sit down with your book in their hands?

I hope they find the same thing.
